The Moon Man
from
Mystic Comics #5 ~ March/1940
This is the only art I have seen by Guardineer at Timely
During the 1980's I carried on a correspondence with Fred.
He was incredibly nice and took the time to answer all my
questions regarding his career and the early days of the comics.

A few photos, autographs & memories from the
8th World Fantasy Convention
New Haven, Connecticut ~ October 29-31/1982

Of all the shows I've attended this show ranks right up
there with the best of them! The authors, artists and
other personalities were very friendly and accessible.
The big shows have become nothing more than trade shows
(San Diego for instance) and in hindsight it makes the memories
of the Seuling conventions from the late 1960's and the early
World Fantasy shows that much more memorable!

Joseph Payne Brennan ~ 1918-1990
Photo taken on Broadway in front of the York Square Cinema.
Brennan was the last great author to premiere in Weird Tales.
He was one of the guests of honor at this show and he was a
pleasure to meet! For anyone unfamiliar with his work look up
a copy of the paperback The Shapes of Midnight (Berkley 1980)
which reprints some of his best stories, including The Corpse of
Charlie Rull, Dissapearance, House on Hazel Street and Slime!

A snapshot of Frank Belknap Long (1901~1994)
Of everyone attending this show F.B. Long was the person I most
wanted to meet. As has been well documented Long was one of
Lovecraft's closest friends and added a great deal to The Mythos.
He was the first author other than Lovecraft to contribute a story
to The Mythos (Hounds of the Tindalos 1929) and created one of
my favorite Mythos characters, the elephantine Great Old One
Chaugnar Faun (The Horror of the Hills 1931). He was very frail
and his friends were keeping most people back from him but I ran
into him in the hall and had the opportunity to talk with him for
a short while. A very soft spoken and gracious man!

The cover to De Camp's biography of Lovecraft signed by
L. Sprague and Catherine De Camp. This was the only time
I met De Camp and after he signed the book I looked over to
Catherine and asked her if she would sign it, adding that I'm sure she
contributed to it. She said she had but L. Sprague gave me a look
that if a look could kill it would have!
