Fantastic Universe didn't contain interior illustrations until

Some of those great stories and great covers, and Finlay's brilliance - what main course tonite!
My abiding memory of this magazine, and others like it, were of constant disaappointment. Yes, there was the occasional brilliant story but so often they were just full of mediocre or poor attempts at sci-fi. But come the next issue I'd be beguiled by the cover again and off we'd go. Even the quality illustrations by Virgil Finlay wouldn't have lessened my regretting the loss of pocket money.
Thank you so much for posting Finlay. You have such amazing taste, this is my favorite blog!
