a really nice batch of covers Mr Tree! Kaluta and Wrightson both did some tremendous work for this title. That cover illo for #236 by Wrightson has always been a fave of mine, really intense and beautifully rendered, as usual!
I always thought DC Comics had the better covers than my boyhood favorite, Marvel. Along with great cover artists, there's nothing like the 'silent' treatment. WIthout speech bubbles, the cover invited the viewer to make a deeper inference to the story within.
The colors always looked great too. I get to see these covers in wonderful b&w in my Showcase Presents collection, but what a treat to see them here in color!
I've been buying beat-up copies of the early 70s horror comics, and have gotten a few of these. Some really fabulous interior work to go with the covers. There are so many here that I have to try to find now. What a great time for comics!
"DC Database" & "GCBD" reckons # 174 is Orlando. "Art of Nick Cardy" reckons it's Cardy. given that both "DCD" & "GCBD" are fan pages, and that Nick Cardy was/is himself involved in the "AONC" site, I'm going with Cardy. that, and it doesn't look anything like Orlando, to me.
oh, yeah, while I'm here, Mr. Door Tree, you credit # 202 to Adams, but it's definately Kaluta. feel free to tell me to "piss off" if you want. . .
but! that is one seriously awesome gallery of great art you got here. man, they REALLY DON'T do 'em like that any more, do they?

I very much appreciate your generosity and dedication. Thank you for these beautiful scans!
But I must ask: the cover posted here --

-- isn't this art by Joe Orlando?
Mark
To my eyes thats a Cardy cover...not Orlando!

Joe,
Yeah, I just made a mistake on #202, it's obvious it's Kaluta...it's signed! I gotta slow down!
