The cover of .44 Western brought back the memory of my late father, Ben Haas, who sold his first story to .44 Western for $40 in 1945 when he was a private serving in the Philippines. "Who Would Die For Poverty Range?" by Ben Stone. Haas went on to write dozens more Westerns including creator of the Fargo, Sundance, and Cutler series and The Rancho Bravo series under a variety of pen names including John Benteen, Thorne DOuglas, Richard Meade, Ben Stone, Ben Elliot, etc. Joel Haas, sculptor Raleigh, NC
