An INCREDIBLE post here. I've not before seen Corben's Howie and Melton stories. Rand Holmes is so awesome here with Raw Meat. I love seeing his Wally Wood influence as well as understanding that Spain was most likely inspired in turn, by Holmes.
The Greg Irons pages are amazing. I've not seen very much of his work, so it's all a visual treat. The Whaling story is wonderful.
Who did the Blackhawk vignette? It's silently gorgeous.
Wonderful post, Mr. Door Tree. Thank you for sharing these underground comix classix!
The Errol McCarthy "Blackhawk" story is one of the great short stories in the comic industry. He did good stuff in the CARToon mags but nothing at this level. Clearly a labour of love.
Slow Death was one of the best of the underground comics. Richard Corben was in his prime! HOW HOWIE MADE IT IN THE REAL WORLD, MANGLE ROBOT MANGLER, and MELTON'S BIG GAME are incredible iconic stories. I have these in my collection stored away, thanks for the reminder and for posting them for those that have never seen them.

Wow! It's so good to see these again! Somewhere, stashed in an old long box, I've got these. Haven't looked at them in years. Thanx!
I love Greg Irons
I had a couple of the early Slow Death Funnies and now of course they're worth a mint.
