I was on campus at this time, and have no recall of announcements about Price's appearance. Was my freshman-year tunnel vision that narrow? Or does the failure lie in my memory?
I was a towney that haunted the Yale film societies for all the great films they showed...viewed my first film at Yale when I was 14 in the mid-1960's(it was Murnau'sTabu) and from there I was hooked...years latter when I found out about the Vincent Price week long tribute I was unbelievably excited...the night before his scheduled appearance they were showing The Tingler (one of my all-time favorites cause it scared my silly as a kid), I figured Price was already in town and that he might sneak in after the lights were turned down so just in case I brought along an original window card for The Tingler to get signed if the opportunity arose...sure enough, as the lights dimmed and the film began a figure stole into the back of the theatre...it was Vincent Price...I slid in alongside him, shook his hand and asked if he would be so kind as to sign the poster I had brought...he gave me a genuine smile, signed the poster and I left him alone to enjoy the film...to make it even more memorable, it was my birthday...one of the holy days of my life!
